Regards d’ailleurs, la suite

Luego de mi primera experiencia en la radio, este año me invitaron  a participar, esta vez ya no como invitada sino como anfitriona del programa “Regards d’ailleurs”. El principio seguía siendo el mismo, invitar en cada programa a un estudiante de un país distinto para que viniera a hablarnos de su cultura, costumbres y de él mismo. Sin embargo este año el programa es los jueves en lugar de los viernes y cada dos semanas en vez de todas las semanas.

En cada programa cada participante escoge un tema que quiere desarrollar, partiendo de unos que son estándar: un quiz para presentar el programa en forma de juego de preguntas; las actualidades del país, todo lo que está sucediendo actualmente que está dando de qué hablar; un tema libre desarrollado por el invitado y la comida, que siempre se deja para el final porque siempre terminamos con hambre a la hora de irnos.

Como yo soy la única estudiante de todo el equipo que hace el programa, soy la que naturalmente tiene más contacto con los extranjeros, entonces siempre termino invitando a mis amigos para que nos acompañen. El primero en la lista fue Larry, de quien desgraciadamente no tengo la grabación. Hubiera estado divertido escucharla, primero porque era mi primer programa y estaba muerta de los nervios, segundo porque logré hablar de Jaime Bayly y de la señorita Laura en una misma crónica (me felicito por ello) y porque Larry estuvo brillante, habló de la comida peruana.

After my first experience on the radio, this year I got invited to participate, not as a guest but as a host of the “Regards d’ailleurs” show. The concept is still the same, every time we invite a student from a different country so that he comes talk to us about his culture, habits and himself. But this year the show is on Thursdays instead of Fridays and every two weeks instead of every week.

In every show each host picks a subject he wants to talk about, choosing from some that are standard: a quiz to present the country in the form of a game show; the country’s news, what’s happening there and what are people talking about; a free subject the guest talks about and at last, food, that is always left at the end because we always get hungry at the time we leave.

Since I’m the only student in the team, I’m the one who is naturally more in touch with other foreigners, so I always invite my friends to come join us. The first on the list was Larry and I’m sad I don’t have the recording. It would have been nice to listen to it, first because it was my first show and I was very nervous, second because I manage to talk about Jaime Bayly and Laura Bozzo in the same chronic (kudos to me about that) and because Larry was very cool, talking about Peruvian cuisine.

Mi segunda participación fue en el programa de España, que se centró en Madrid, la ciudad de donde es originario nuestro invitado Juan. En ella hablé de las atracciones turísticas y culturales de Madrid, para las cuales me ayudó Estéfano, con ayuda adicional de los sitios web del Museo Reina Sofía, del Real Madrid y del Atlético de Madrid.

My second time was in the show about Spain, which was mainly about Madrid, the city where our guest Juan is from. In it I talked about Madrid’s touristic and cultural attractions and I was helped by Estéfano, with additional input from the web sites from the Reina Sofía Museum, the Real Madrid and the Atlético de Madrid. 

Luego reclutamos a mi compañera del curso de italiano, Esra, que es originaria de Turquía. Sobra decir que ahora me muero de ganas por ir a Istambul. Me divertí muchísimo investigando para este programa porque decidí hacer una crónica de “Lo que está de moda en Turquía”. Hablé del cantante que representó al país en el Eurovisión, el escándalo en el mundo del fútbol y sobre todo de una novela histórica basada en la vida del sultán Suleiman “El Magnífico”. El tema del que habló Esra fue de Istambul y sus atracciones.

We then recruited my classmate from Italian, Esra, who is from Turkey. Needless to say, now I’m dying to go to Istanbul. I had lots of fun researching for this show because I chose to talk about “what’s hip in Turkey”. I talked about the singer who represented the country in the Eurovision contest, the scandal in the national soccer league and especially about the historical soap opera based on the life of sultan Suleiman “the Magnificent”. Esra talked about Istanbul and its attractions.

 

Para el programa de China invitamos a Ying, con quien habíamos viajado a Barcelona previamente. Hablé de comida, naturalmente, viendo mi obsesión con la cocina de esa región. Para mi mala suerte como siempre es la última parte no pude decir ni la mitad de lo que tenía planeado, pero estuvo muy entretenido.  Ying nos habló de la celebración del Año nuevo chino, al que nos había invitado a festejar a Pamela y a mí a un restaurante con un buffet ilimitado.

For the show about China we invited Ying, with whom we got to go to Barcelona last year. I spoke about food naturally, seeing the obsession I have with the cuisine from that region. But since this is the last thing we talk about I couldn’t say half of the stuff I had prepared, but it was very fun. Ying talked about the New year’s celebration and actually she invited Pamela and me to celebrate it in a restaurant with an “all-you-can-eat-it” buffet.

 

Para hablarnos de México vino Daniel, a compartir sobre los sitios turísticos menos conocidos de su región. Aquí hablé de las actualidades, específicamente de boxeo, la chica que va a participar como clavadista en las Olimpiadas en Londres y de Luis Miguel, mi placer culposo y hasta ahora oculto. Daniel, tan gentil como siempre, hasta nos trajo dulces para todos los del equipo y los que estaban en la radio, que por cierto lo hicieron incluir una canción que sale en “Breaking Bad”. Muerto de risa.

Creo que este fue el primer programa en el que no estuve tan nerviosa, porque en los primeros juro que hasta me cambiaba la voz. Pero independientemente de mi acento y Dios sabrá de todos los errores que he de hacer, hacer el programa es súper divertido y es una euforia que muy pocas otras cosas me dan.

Daniel came to talk about Mexico, to share with us the hidden touristic sites from his region. This time I talked about the news, specifically about boxing, the girl who will represent Mexico in the diving category in the London Olympics and about Luis Miguel, my guilty and so far hidden pleasure. Daniel was so nice to bring us Mexican sweets and the people on the radio were very excited to play a song from the “Breaking Bad” series. We were laughing a lot

I think this is the first show in which I was not that nervous, because in the first ones even my voice changed. But aside from my accent and God knows how many mistakes I make, doing the show is super fun and I feel an euphoria I don’t feel elsewhere.
